A New York Minute With Model Sophie Alshehry

The Saudi Arabian name to know on pre-loved fashion, personal style, and blended cultures.ā€Æ

Whether itā€™s creating TikTok content with her mum or dashing around the New York sidewalk in this seasonā€™s most wanted Khaite boots, Saudi Arabian Sophie Alshehry is redefining what it means to be a new-gen model. As part of Levelā€™s ongoing community profile series we decided to sit down with the rising fashion star to learn more.

ā€œThe best style is what you make it...ā€Æ maybe try on that piece that isnā€™t considered a trend and just makes you feel confident.ā€

How do you describe your personal style?

I did not have money growing up, so when we did get clothes they were usually from a second hand store. I remember I would try my hardest to find pieces that looked like what my friends were buying brand new. I had to get creative to find clothes that helped me blend in with my peers. Thankfully as we age, we learn to let go of a lot of the things that held us down as kids. So now I use my creativity to find a piece that can be worn in multiple ways or simply sparks joy in me.

And how does that reflect now?

I think my style has a large range. In some ways, it is playful because I like to wear clothes not as they were intended, and layer pieces to make cool shapes and textures. But I also love to keep it simple with a white button down, a pair of loose-fitting jeans, some cowboy boots, and a hand-me-down purse. This shoot with Level Shoes x Diesel really inspired me on what I want to add to my closet. Each piece could be made the star or co-star to any outfit which I think is super important when investing in pieces. Long story short, I think the best style is what you make it... and maybe try on that piece that isnā€™t considered trendy and just makes you feel confident. I think a sleek black boot can do no wrong.

Where will you be spending your summer?

I will be in one of the best places on this planet ā€“ in my very biased opinion ā€“ here in NYC. I always say that itā€™s like its own little country due to how diverse it is. You have people from all over the world that are either visiting or making New York their new home. I have grown to have multiple chosen families here from all different backgrounds. I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such unique and beautiful people. I have no doubt I will be laying out in the sun in Central Park or by the piers with all my loved ones.ā€Æ

What does a typical morning look like for you?

I generally get up around 9AM and try not to look at my phone but thatā€™s hard! We are not all the kind of person to get up at 5AM and go for a run, journal, make a healthy smoothie, and other aesthetic things before it is even 8AM. More power to those people, but my thing is loving sleep. So after a bit of a lie in, I get up and go for a long walk with a podcast. I will sometimes bring a book or yarn to crochet while walking because I am that weird girl. When I get back I stretch, shower, eat breakfast, then I usually have to rush off to a casting.

Whatā€™s on the summer reading list?

I love any kind of young adult thriller, fantasy, or romance! I try to read at least one book a month but I also have always been a slow reader so it can be a bit daunting. Currently, itā€™s the second book of the series Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross. I HIGHLY suggest this short series ā€“ truly addictive!

What is your favourite thing to do in New York on your day off?

I just love being in the sun. So in the summer I like to get lost in the streets, people watch, and lay out on a picnic blanket in the park. In the winter, however, I am an actual bear and hibernate at home or the library because this girl rose from the desert and does not like the cold.
